Subject: Archbishop Rodi’s Decree and future plans

Dear Catholic Faithful,

As you might be aware, Archbishop Rodi has issued his decree regarding the Latin Mass.  Here is the message that I wrote for our bulletin.

Archbishop Rodi issued a decree concerning the celebration of the Latin Mass in accordance with Pope Francis’ Apostolic Letter, Traditionis Custodes (dated July 16, 2021).  Basically he has decided there will be two priests designated to offer the Latin Mass in the Archdiocese of Mobile: Fr. Irwin for the Montgomery area and Fr. William Saucier for the Mobile area.  Furthermore, he has designated exactly where those Masses can take place: the Mass will be offered at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montgomery and at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Whistler, Alabama.  These are the only two places that the Latin Mass may be offered.  Furthermore, both Fr. Irwin and Fr. Saucier will be allowed to offer it twice a month in those respective locations.  Archbishop’s Rodi’s decree goes into effect December 11, 2021.

I am currently working with those who are in the two choirs that sing for our Latin Masses as well as the altar servers to device a plan for future celebrations of the Latin Mass.  One thing is for sure, we will need a number of volunteers who can be counted on to help make this happen.  Please let me know if you would like to help.  For instance, there will be Sundays where I will not be able to open the church or lock up when Holy Mass is over due to my other commitments.  We could use help setting out the red books and handouts as well.  We will also need to clean up everything and place things back where they belong after Holy Mass.  These duties will not take a lot of time, however, we could use some of you to make them happen.

When I have a plan together for future Latin Masses I will let you know.  Until then, I will continue to send out notices regarding upcoming individual Latin Masses.
