Each year with this obscene White House Correspondents Dinner the true collective face of the Establishment presstitute media is exposed for all the world to see. It is not the noble visage of intrepid crusaders for truth, but a sagging countenance, oily and obsequious by decades of lying and servility to their masters.
Fashionable entertainers vetted as abject toadies of the regime, avoid telling unfashionable truths to the hubristic Beltway audience that prefers the comfortable lie and the flattering jest.
Never mentioned by these disgusting court jesters who roast the Murderer-In-Chief are the draconian and egregious violations of the most sacred rights and liberties of the American people — The PATRIOT Act, warrantless wiretapping, invasive surveillance and collection of intimate personal communication and records, renditions, torture, drone assassinations, military commissions, Guantanamo.
The whole apparatus of state terror actually has two dimensions: the domestic war upon those rights and liberties of the American people — and the millions of persons butchered in senseless imperial wars overseas — in illegal, unconstitutional, preemptive wars of aggression and conquest.
But of course this is not how the pressitutes perceive themselves. They are not like you or me. They are a special class of beings. They are the Fourth Estate, an imaginary extension of the rigid class structure of pre-Revolutionary France from the Estates General.
In the Ancien Regime there was the clergy, the nobility, and lastly, the bourgeoisie and commoners. The Fourth Estate see themselves on an equal par with the first two elevated classes, and above the third. It is the aristocratic notion that gentlemen and ladies of the press serve a vaunted “public interest,” and do not soil themselves with activities of a rank and sordid commercialism.
Such endeavors would be a violation of their hoary journalistic ethics. They have a public trust to enlighten the masses in their duties to their betters, those who compose the state and their adjunct servitors in the kept press.
The stark reality is all too apparent, even to these lumbering dinosaurs.
