Here’s a “what-if” scenario with a happy ending: soon after the White House bans guns via executive order, “a tear-streaked Obama was marched into the Senate Chamber” for impeachment. Prior to that, however, “a scattered number of armed protests” at this grossly unconstitutional prohibition “broke out in several state capitals, though few turned violent, as law enforcement officers and protesters were largely in agreement. Several IRS offices were burned all the same.”
Yep, it’s a joyous thought that Americans, even those who sponge off us as Leviathan’s enforcers, would rally so decisively to protect liberty. And I hope the author of this fantasy is correct–but I doubt it. How many of our gun-owning neighbors cheered Obamacare’s absolute evisceration of the Constitution? How many of them support “our” troops, and I don’t mean just financially, despite the lack of any constitutional authority for federal policing worldwide?
On the other hand, the Second Amendment underlies and guarantees the rest of the Bill of Rights, so perhaps Americans would rise if DC’s tyrants breached this final barrier to despotism.
Thanks to Bill Martin for starting my day with such an optimistic story.
