In the final days of the Nixon administration, CBS News’ prime time feature 60 Minutes had a famous segment that aired each week. It was called Point/Counterpoint. It was a mini-debate between James Jackson Kilpatrick (on the right) and Nicholas von Hoffman (on the left). In perhaps the most notable episode of the program von Hoffman observed concerning President Nixon and Watergate that it had reached the point as if you found a dead mouse in your kitchen.
“The question,” he said of the president, “is who is going to pick it up by the tail and drop it in the trash. At this point it makes no difference whether he resigns, thereby depositing himself in a sanitary container, or whether Congress scoops him up in the dustpan of impeachment. But as an urgent national health measure, we’ve got to get that decomposing political corpse out of the White House.”
It has reached that unfortunate stage with President Donald Trump with his ghoulish salivating enemies seething and chomping at the bit clamoring for his utter destruction and ruin.
God save the United States and its Republic.
