The Origins of Leftist Name-Calling and Ad Hominem Attacks?

The mating call of today’s leftists is “racistsexisthomophobe!! racistsexisthomophobe!!”  Hillary Clinton announced as much during her infamous “deplorables” speech in which she labeled some 65 million voters in this way.  The purpose of such mindless, hate-filled name calling is to censor all non-commie ideas from public discourse.  That’s why today’s maniacal left insists on absurdly calling President Trump an “anti-Semite” despite the fact that his daughter, son-in-law, and several grandchildren are orthodox Jews; no one ever cites any example of his “anti-Semitic” words or behavior; and he has many lifelong Jewish friends and business and political associates, most notably Benjamin Netanyahu.

This argument-by-demonization ploy is nothing new.  Frederic Bastiat pinpointed a version of this ad hominem argumentation scam during his day in his 1850 classic, The Law, in a section entitled “A Confusion of Terms.”  As he wrote:

“We disapprove of state education.  The socialists say that we are opposed to any education.  We object to state religion.  Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all.  We object to state-enforced equality.  Then they say that we are against equality.  And so on . . . .  It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.”

Then of course there is the old Marxist line that all critics of Marxism are “capitalist tools” (a.k.a. paid liars).
