Military Metaphysics

Wendy McElroy brings a new depth to the prescient C. Wright Mills and his pioneer 1956 sociological analysis of The Power Elite in “Military Metaphysics: A Military Definition of Reality.” Contemporary establishment critics of the heretic Mills stated that he grossly exaggerated the influence of the military in cataloging the triumvirate of power in America. But the deep history of the past 59 years have fully vindicated Mills. His book was soon followed by Dwight Eisenhower’s Millsian warning of the military-industrial complex and the November 22, 1963 coup d’état by the top echelon of the National Security State. While the incubus of this National Security deep state had its satanic genesis in the Truman administration, it fully came into its own with the murder of JFK. 9/11 simply unleashed the monstrous post-constitutional leviathan to devour every thing in its path without the illusion of restraint.
