On Christmas eve Pope Francis criticized the Israeli government for machine gunning children and bombing schools and hospitals in Gaza. Some 400 Israeli “scholars and clerics” wrote an open letter to the pope in which they did not deny that their government has been murdering children and thousands of other civilians in Gaza, but only asked the pope to be more even handed by also criticizing the killing of Israelis by Hamas. A perfect rendition of the two-wrongs-make-a-right philosophy by these esteemed scholars.
