Karen, the intellectually gifted are targeted for destruction, because, in Arendt’s words below, the greater the capacity independently to form convictions, the greater the danger to the hive.
Solution to a) government educrat slugs and b) high cost of alternative schools?
Homeschool.
If the cost of adequate schools is commensurate with that of college, your friend will save $40-$50,000 a year of tuition paid with after-tax funds (and add to that the costs not spent on all aspects of working outside the home, in both time and money); she will have time with her children that they (and she) will treasure for a lifetime; she will be able to exercise her natural law right to direct the duration of her own children; and the lower household income (since she will not be working outside the home) will qualify her children for higher scholarships from excellent schools which, every year, are more welcoming to homeschooled kids because they’re such a pleasure to have in class.
And here’s Arendt, which I had to write out so often that I finally put it in my signature.
“The aim of totalitarian education has never been to instill convictions but to destroy the capacity to form any.”
(Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism)
