So a guy at a bar asks me if I had heard any news of the Jordanian pilot before the news broke that he was murdered. My response was: “Well, if people in Syria and Jordan want to chop each others’ heads off, that’s fine and dandy with me. It has nothing at all to do with me, or you, or anyone else in this country. Let ’em have at it.”
I could have alternatively said that I believe in trade with all nations, entangling alliances with none, expressing the same sentiment, but then the guy’s head would probably have exploded. As it was, the thought had obviously never entered this man’s mind (an Ivy League educated retired businessman in his 60s) that the U.S. military should not necessarily intervene with violence in every little argument everywhere on the planet. He was obviously dumbfounded and just said nothing.
