Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) will retire next year, following a long line of chairmen of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee whose career was not enhanced by their service there.
Since the 1970s, Senators Fulbright, Church, Percy, Lugar, and now Menendez have wound up losers while serving there. Americans, for good or ill, are just not that interested in foreign policy – probably a good thing, since most who are interested get it all wrong anyway.
