Violence in Chicago

I don’t know how this problem can be fixed; the article even says the shootings are not really much drug related anymore.  The area mentioned, Lawndale, is where I worked as a probation officer, and it definitely hasn’t changed.  http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/06/04/us/chicago-shootings.html?emc=edit_th_20160605&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=32208582

Dear M:

In my view, the cause of the shootings in Chicago all stem from a lack of libertarianism. The mayor is a leftie pinko. There are drug laws (the NYTimes is incorrect in underplaying this as a serious cause of the violence). There is a minimum wage law which creates vast unemployment, disproportionately amongst black youth. Idleness is the devil’s workshop. There are public schools. There is a welfare system.

In addition, there is the “black lives matter” group, which has made the govt police fearful of going into dangerous neighborhoods and stopping criminals forcibly. Every once in a while a policeman, white or black, is imprisoned for making an error. This leads to more shootings, more deaths, disproportionately black, as police are reluctant to do their jobs.

The liberals have been influential in denigrating the fact that a disproportionate number of black people are in prison; or, are kicked out of school for misbehavior, even by black teachers. As a result, additional criminals are more likely to be out on the streets, shooting off guns. If the progressive’s legal system were more draconian about actual crimes where there are victims, and legalized victimless crimes (drugs, prostitution, gambling, tax evasion — selling loosie cigarettes), this problem would more likely be solved. Eliminated? No. Such is the human condition. But vastly reduced? Yes.
