Yes, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also the war in Vietnam. I am no fan of Martin Luther King Jr. (theology, politics, economics, associations, womanizing) or his holiday, but his 1967 sermon, “Why I Am Opposed to the War in Vietnam,” is a sermon that should have been preached in every church during the 1960s and for the past ten years. He beings with the simple statement: “Now, let me make it clear in the beginning, that I see this war as an unjust, evil, and futile war.” King puts evangelical warvangelicals to shame.
