New DeLorean Sports Cars Will Be Built In Texas

The iconic DeLorean is going back to the future. And yes, it is as every bit as exciting as it sounds.

Yes, brand new — not refurbished  — DeLoreans could hit the road as early as next year. The big news comes after the automaker announced it will soon start building the sleek, silver sports cars again for the first time in three decades. This good news comes after a change in federal law that allows for low-volume manufacturing.

There won’t be an unlimited supply of the cars made famous by the 1985 flick Back to the Future. Wynne says he has enough original parts to build 300 of them and they’ll go for around $100,000 each.

Wynne, the company’s current owner, bought the DeLorean name after the company went bankrupt in 1982. Its original founder, John DeLorean was accused of drug trafficking to raise money to keep the it afloat. He was later acquitted of those charges. Wynne bought the parts and logo of the original company and he’s been renovating older models since then.

The replica models are set to go on sale early in 2017. That means that you can get your hands on a brand new DeLorean, yep – just like the one driven by Doc Brown, next year. You will have to take care of supplying the flux capacitor though.

The new replica models should sell for $100,000 with exact pricing depending on the engine choice. Refurbished models sell for around $45,000 to $55,000.
