Suspect Shot With Shotgun During Home Invasion, Second Suspect on the Run

A home invasion ended badly for one suspect, who is now in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, after he and an accomplice broke into a home in Independence, Missouri, Saturday night.

It was just before 9:30 when the two suspects forced their way into the home and started beating the two men inside. However, one of the residents was able to grab his shotgun and when he shot the first suspect in the abdomen, the second suspect quickly took off running, the local fox affiliate reports.

When police arrived, the suspect who was shot was taken to a local hospital, where he remains under police custody. Although his [amazon asin=B003RXFHBO&template=*lrc ad (right)]injuries were originally believed to be life-threatening, his current condition is unknown. The two residents, who were both treated at the scene, received minor injuries during the incident as well.

The second suspect was described as being in his 30s, about 5′ 8″ to 5′ 10” with a skinny build and wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.

Police did not state what they believed was the motive behind the home invasion. However, area residents say that the neighborhood is no stranger to crime.

“It doesn’t surprise me at all,” said Sabrina Ray, who lives in the neighborhood. “I’ve had stuff stolen, my house has been broken into. We got ADT because of it. I’ve had my kids’ toys taken out of my yard.”

Ray even admits that if it wasn’t for her owning her home, she would have already moved out of the neighborhood.

But another neighborhood resident, David Wright, says that crime hasn’t always been so bad in the area.
